  • I can't export multi render passes with V-Ray

Hey guys I am trying to render oout a multi pass render from 3dsMax 2021 and V-Ray5. I followed many tutorials so I do just like recommended, add my elements and when I render I render to .exr file. Now to my understanding this is like a folder of passes that should be read by compositing software. But when I try to use it in After Effects or Natron (it's like Nuke) it doesn't seem that I have any passes contaiined within that exr file. Natron open s it as a "beauty pass" and After Effects all black, doesn't even show anything. I did set up After Effects to all neccessary settings to receive VRay export so I don't know what it is. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

In After Effects go to the file menu and choose 'create ProEXR layer comps' and it should work fine
If it doesn't then it may be the exr options you need to change, so try saving full float if not already doing that.
You can do all this from the VFB if you choose save all to single file.

It looks like you need the plugin for AE, that's all

Hahah ok I found the plugin and dowloaded it yet I can't figure out how to install it into After Effects so if you have any intel on how is it done I would appreciate information. As for now I am at least on a good path as I managed to see all of my passes for this test render image in Natron compositing software so I at least know they are contained within EXR file as they should. What I did differently is I switched to GPU rendering setting instead of just Hotflix 5. I actually don't know the difference between these two except that one is using my graphics card but it worked. Now I just need to figure OpenEXR in AE. Thank you for your help. I would be stuck otherwise.

Well one is cpu based and the other is gpu

For openexr, just put it into the AE plugins folder, in effects - and it should be found.
Oddly, it should already be there in AE from CS4 version, so no idea why it's missing.

EDIT: Actually it has changed, so go here to find out http://fnordware.blogspot.com/2019/11/proexr-25.html
