  • Examples of problems caused by low Shadow bias?

The default shadow bias value of 0.020 for lights keeps giving us trouble with detached and missing shadows in smaller scale scenes, so we're considering making the default value 0.0002 across our pipeline.
The documentation says it shouldn't be too low and mentions some problems with light leeking, morire and "out of place dark areas", but I haven't been able to observe anything like this in my tests, even on gigantic scale scenes. Have anyone had trouble with this? Any particular situations that we can test to bring out those problems? Are there any renders somewhere I can look at for reference so we can recognize it if it comes up?

    Hi David

The default value in Vray for Houdini is .0002 , I often go lower than .02 in Maya and Max without facing issues ... I have done close ups on watches and jewellery without issues on .0002
Discussion about this in the Houdini section here

    Best,
