  • caustic thing!!

hi here a kind of pool situation but I don't know what kind of parameter that I need to increase! I become crazy with it. I have the caustics but no sharpen and not good......
    If someone can help me

hmmmm... it may be an issue with an area light that huge. I would decrease your search distance until you start to see the little dots. The you will need to amount of caustics subds. Then start to raise your search distance again. But you may have better luck with 4 small area lights rather then 1 big one.

priad did you try adjusting vray light's caustic subdivisions?
also try lowering the density to 0.8 dont go lower then that.

Here is a good tut showing what does what with the caustic's settings http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...pic.php?t=2651

Basicly I think you just need a lot more subs.

Well first off i would suggest NOT using a vray light for caustics. I found it spreads them out too much. Use a direct light set to square in your case and have it not case in light so you can still light your scene with the vray light if you want.

Put your caustic subs up to about 2000 on the direct light and go from there. also you may want to have the light from above to get the caustics the way you want.. unless your really after something thats light from the bottom.

Check out my glass cup thread, i posted some caustics info there.

The first few caustics renders look crap but that was a bug in that vray build but the info is still usefull.

I don't have any experience with caustics, so correct me if I'm wrong on this one... But aren't typical pool caustics reflective more than refractive? Meaning, would you get better results with the light above the water?

Thanks for your reply I will try the subdiv, I have forgotten this
In the past I have good issue with caustic but I need to reload my brain hehe.
Austin: I agree with the reflective caustic, I will test after.

no issue with Vray light to have sharp caustics:
Here with one spot it work.

The pattern looks nice, but somehow I think there should be more falloff.
