  • Is it possible to have highly reflective objects (like mirrors)

    Hi there.

A lighting firm has made some inquiries to me about doing some mock ups for a lighting rig they wish to install on big commercial property. Basically they produce these highly reflective mirrors that bounce light from the sun to other objects, kind of like a massive solar powered spot light. So as the sun moves across the sky, so dose the little motors in the device so the "spot light" is constant on the target.

Anyway. I have been using Vray a while but have never really seen such high intensity reflection of photons. Normally I would "fake" somthing like that using a self illuminated material or maybe even a light attached to teh "mirror". Still these options will not do as they are requiring to be able to give me exact time of day / sun positions and angels of reflection.. then I can render the result to show them how this will look on the building.

Do you think this is capable of being done in Vray?

For the light bouncing off the mirror it's just caustics isnt it?

I cant help you with how to use them though - only tried once to see how they work. If you search the forum theres a fair few posts about it.

I thought cuastics was about light going though objects... like glass and stuff...

Caustics can be refractive (passing through a medium) or reflective (mirrors, etc.).
