Hi,
I am currently looking into our linear workflow procedures and i have come across a stumbling block which im wondering if anyone can help with.
At the moment we are globally overriding every bitmap texture that is coming into max using the "linear workflow" checkbox from within Vray. After reading a lot of information i understand that this is essentially not correct as there are certain textures, 16/32bit textures, HDRI's, Normal maps and bump maps that should have their linear space preserved, ie they shouldn't have a non-linear sRGB correction applied to them.
My question is this, is there anyway of using a node from within the material editor, such as a colourcorrect plugin to override the effects of the linear workflow checkbox?
At the moment my concerns are that any override that i am applying from a node within the material editor is being ignored by the linear workflow that i have outlined above. Whilst the visual differences are often minimal i would still like to make sure that the workflow is correct.
I have read a lot of posts about how to set the linear workflow up through 3ds Max > customize > preferences > Gamma and Lut. However this is an unsuitable solution currently as it would mean changing all our render blade preferences and re-rendering old jobs would become problematic. It is also far more prone to human error than our current workflow.
I appreciate this type of question comes up quite a lot and can often devolve into pages and pages of chit chat so any help on the matter would be appreciated.
Regards
Mark
