  • V-Ray Sun and Physical Camera

Im having some trouble with the V-Ray Sun and Sky and the Physical camera using it to render an interior scene:

When I use V-Ray Sun and render with a Maya camera it gets totally blown out. I changed it to a Physical Camera and the result is much better, but now its too dark in the indirect Illum areas. Do I have to tweak some settings in the extra V-Ray Attributes of the Camera and / or change some in the Sun Settings?

Also, I have a plane with a Backgroundshader with a picture in place for the Visual environment outside the room. After I enabled the Sun and Sky its only black. Does anyone know why that is, and how to fix it?

Can someone help me on this?

I fixed the issue with the brightness. Just needed some increase of the intensity multiplier of the Sun.

What I still don't understand is why the background image planes turn all black. I tried to change the material from a surface shader to a lambert and to a V-Ray Material. Its still black. I even enabled receive and cast shadows again, as I thought its because of that, but still black. Does anyone know why and how to fix it?

Since VRayPhysicalCamera is developed to work with a real-world parameters (so it can be physically correct) its exposure is set very high.
That is why your background image comes out black. Please try using VRayLight material for the background image plane with increased multiply value.
Besides increasing the intensity multiplier of the Sun you can tweak the shutter speed and ISO options of the VRayPhysicalCamera.

Thanks for the help. How can I increase the multiply value of the light Material if I have a texture plugged into the color parameter? from what I get is that you increase the brightness of the material with that parameter. However it is now locked due to the connection with the texture.

I foud out how to increase the brightness of the texture (increasing the colo gain in the textures attributes.) However that does not seem to work. I increased the V value to 1000 but the picture is still black.

Please make sure that the texture is plugged into the color parameter not the color multiplier one. Then you will be able to increase the color multiplier

Hmmm, I only have Color and Opacity in the VRay Light Material. See Link:

I don't find the color multiplier parameter. Is that somewhere else?

You should download and install the latest available V-Ray for Maya 1.50.SP1build from our website.

That did the trick! Neat checkbox "Compensate camera exposure". Thank you!
