  • Distributed Rendering server list

How can I query the state of a remote DR server?

I can start and stop the DR service on a user's machine during logon/off, but then the Distributed rendering list isn't accurate. Can I quickly check to see which machines are active, then update the server list so the renderer isn't searching for machines that aren't actually available?

Basically, we have quite extensive computing resources, but we don't have them in a dedicated farm.

Anybody doing any clever scripting to deal with this?

    Hi Zach,

We have been exploring this a bit as well. Our IT guy has written a script that checks to see which CPUs have vrayslave.exe running, but not because we don't want maya to be 'searching' for running hosts ... rather for troubleshooting.

Are you on OSX or Windows?

      Windows.

It think it would be great to be able to create a pool of slaves and DR could check to see if they are active, then anyone could steal whichever machines were available.

Hm, interesting question; we don't have such a script ready, but I guess we can look into it.

        Best regards,

I would be in favour of a script like this too.
