  • Does it make sense using "Clamp output" with 32bits output?

    Hi,
If i activate the Clamp output under Color mapping i get ride of values of white above 1 (or 255) so i lose the advantage of playing with Photoshop's "Exposure" adjustment.

Apart from that, i still have more info or quality in other aspects saving in 32bits? or since i activate Clamp output it would be the same saving in 16bit?

I think this is a bit tricky, HERE in the fifth comment James said that even activating Clamp output we have higher range (in reply to second comment)

Would appreciate some light here, thanks,

    best regards,

Yes you do have more dynamic resolution with float even when clamped to 0/1. a LOT even. Actually there are more values between 0-1 than there is between 1 and infinity. You do loose the proper relation between highlights and darks tho of course. And keep in mind that 16bit is not 16bit. 16bit halffloat is a lot different from 16bit integer.

    Regards,
    Thorsten

      Thanks for that,
Could you explain briefly the 0-1 and 1-infinity issue and the 16 integer one?

      Sorry for abusing your generosity
