  • hdr rendering vs hdr photography

    is it possible to simulate hdr photography simply by saving out your render to 32-bit .exr or .hdr and then playing around with exposure control or color mapping in vray or photoshop? wouldn't it still have realtively "flat" color depth compared to an hdr photograph composed of multiple exposures and complied as a 32-bit hdr image?

    If you take a hdr rendered image and adjust exposure very high and very low in photoshop, and put the 3 images together this should have a similar effect to using exposure bracketed photos.

      I think in theory a 32-bit rendering has more color depth than any hdr photography would ever have. However, it is of course dependend of the scene and how much dynamic contrast is in there. But you should get similiar results when using any tonemappers with renderings as you get with using exposure bracketed sequences in photography...
