  • fog tricks

    not sure if this was brought up before. how would i set up having a thick ground cover fog yet still have a full atmosphere thin mist. would i put 2 vray fogs in there with 2 different gizmos?

    Yes, why not. Two envFogs in same scene should work fine.
    In first versions you couldn't do that without artefacts.

          I meant that in sp3 or 4 it wasnt working yet, but in sp5 you can allready have multible envfogs.

            i still cant seem to get those lovely rays of light in the trees

              would the fog subdivs be why im not getting lovely volumetric streaks of light through the trees?. oh wait. i forgot im using a smoke map in the density slot so i dont have access to subdivs

                The sun light would have to be stronger for the rays to be visible.

                  im using vray sun. when you say the sun needs to be stronger you mean change my apature on the camera. or actually change the multiplier on the sun?

                    You can try to either change the multiplier for the sun, or just limit the height of the fog so that less of the light is blocked.

                        What is Max version are you using?
                        I have working sample scene example done with 2011. I could send that to you.

                              I could try to make same thing with 2009 tomorrow.
                              There isn't anything special with my settings, so I don't understand why it isn't working in your scene.

                              1. What is the fog distance?
                              2. Are you using any gizmos?
                              3. Do you get better rays if you are not using any maps in smoke?
                              That turns the fog to be rendered using raymarcher, so it might give you different (softer) result.
