Just downloaded and installed the latest Vue xStream PLE (realising it doesn't have a 2012 plug-in to my disappointment).
Testing a simple scene with a terrain, some trees planted through the ecosystem, a water plane and an atmosphere loaded from a pre-set.
Vray chugged through this at a reasonably slow pace (800x400, no fancy settings for gi or sampling etc.). and landed on about 19 minutes plus.
Just for fun I switched over to mentalray and surprisingly saw the render time at 8 minutes plus. The image was nearly identical quality wise.
Why is it Vray is so slow compared to Mr even with the "optimized atmospheric calculation" checked?
The scene just crashed on me (before saving) while fiddling with some map display stuff in the slate editor, but I can probably reproduce it and upload the scene file if anyone wants me to.
