  • volume solid shader?

    hello all

is there a way to add thickness to an opacity mapped material (without displacement)?
I read a lot and it seems mental ray has something to simulate thickness.

    the post: http://forums.cgarchitect.com/38739-...acity-map.html

someone meant you should ask chaosgroup for a volume solid shader for vray...? is something similar existing?

i defenetly second that! maybe even with a map slot or a curve graph for the thickness! that would do a great job in cases where a displacement would take just too much time to compute because it would be too detailed.

I've been wanting something like this for ages. Being able to do complex mesh screens with thickness or being able to avoid complex linework would be great!

Ahhhh yes ! there's a VolumeSolid shader in finalRender (we use it for some prod), and it's simply amazing. I wish we had something like that in VRay as well.
However, in finalRender, VolSolid shader has some very annoying limitations with G-Buffer !

Such a shader would be amazing, the only thing related in way is the the fog function but
in general the field of volume effects is quite underrepresented in VRay...
