  • Color Space of rendered images

    Dear all,

I am just trying to figure out some stuff in regard to color management and color spaces.
What is the used color space of VRay Renderings? As far as I understood, a linear 32 bit image (hdr or exr) has no color space saved in the file since Photoshop asks for the colorspace when opening the files. Or is it sRGB since the sRGB button in the frame buffer exists?

When importing the rendering into Photoshop, you have to choose a color space, in Fusion you can select an LUT. When the image is rendered in sRGB it doesn't make much sense to use a wider gamut here, or does it, because you want to apply a lot of color correction?

    Best regards

    Robert

as far as I understand it doesnt get assigned a profile, but in the VFB you can manually assign a LUT for viewing

Although V-Ray works with all images in linear color space you can output them with different gamma correction (http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/200R...lormapping.htm), depending on whether you want to compose those images later or not.
The sRGB button in the VRay frame buffer is used for a preview of the sRGB curve, in case you are working in linear gamma and you want to see how your output will look like after sRGB curve is applied on it.

Just like the sRGB mode of the VFB in the post production software it is best to import and edit your images in linear space and in the same time preview them in sRGB while working.
