  • Particles as voxels?

    Hi all!
Im just getting the Krakatoa SR2 beta for maya and wonder if its possible to render particles as voxels with vray for maya?

Have a look at the following image:

    http://www.thinkboxsoftware.com/disp...=1315351244949

Apparently this is supported in the max version of vray:

"Krakatoa MX 2 adds the ability to render the particles as voxels in any renderer that supports the 3ds Max Environment effects, including Default Scanline, V-Ray, finalRender and Brazil r/s (excluding mental ray which requires rewriting of atmospheric shaders)."

    Best

This is possible in 3ds Max, because it has a native API through which atmospheric shaders can talk to a renderer, and the above mentioned renderers recognize and use this API. There is no such API in Maya, and a separate shader must be written for each renderer (mental ray shader for mental ray, V-Ray volume shader plugin for V-Ray etc). This can be done either on our side, if Krakatoa has an API that allows it, or on the Krakatoa side if the guys at ThinkBox have the time and desire to deal with it.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

      Ok thanks Vlado!
Is there any other way like rendering regular particles as "fluid voxels" in vray for maya?
Just brainstorming here to see what´s possible.

If you find a way to convert the particles to a Maya fluid grid, then it should be possible...

Or, if you are testing Phoenix FD, you can use the Foam shader which can directly render particles using a grid.

Oh bummer.. "Access expires: 30 Jun 2012"
I did participate in the Phoenix beta but that was a while ago..
So no way to try that then?

Send us an email to vraymaya@chaosgroup.com and we'll sort it out; there is no problem to extend the beta.

                Best regards,
