  • Transparency Alpha not correct.

Hey all. At a 50% transparent material, I would expect a midgrey looking alpha (when Affect Channels is active). But that is not coming out for some reason here. It is either almost black or pure white. There is no between. I donĀ“t get this. I am so sure that this was working before. What am I missing?
Im on Maya2014, vray 2.4 and MacOSX 6.8.

Worked fine in our quick tests.
Can you send us a sample scene + the result you got in your environment?

      Hey Svetlozar,

thanks for the reply. Here is a zip file with the scene and a simple comp. I hope that helps. Maybe I am completely wrong, but a 60% transparent material should not look like that in composing.

The Diffuse Color should not be complete black - change its value to 0.001 for example and you will get expected alpha values.
I'll make a note about this into our system.

Wow, thats a huge difference. I know the rule of never to use pure black and pure white but I always thought this counts for diffuse parameters or non-transparent shaders. I never would have imagined that a .001 makes such a huge difference. Thanks for that! Highly appretiated,....again

This is actually considered as a bug - the result should not be wrong even if the diffuse is complete black.
I've reported it into our system and I'll update you when we have some news about it.

The interesting thing is when you keep diffuse completely black and start with transparency (either amount or color) with 0 and make your way to 1 at some point it then jumps from a black alpha to a complete white alpha.
