  • Lighting objects with lidar points

The new version of the Faro lidar scanner supports hdri and if one could map the hdri values to the lidar points, would it be possible to light objects with just the points?

It would but it'd probably be very slow - sampling from an un-optimized light source could be nasty. You'd be better off modelling a very simple representation of the scan and mapping your hdri to that. Scott metzger did a great run through using a lidar scanner, hdri panoramas and mari a while back - grab the download here - https://www.fxguide.com/fxguidetv/fx...-mari-and-hdr/

Is there any way to map a material to the point cloud object? I can load the scans from the Faro scanner, but as soon as I apply any material to the point cloud object, the render gets black. Strangely, the object renders correct when I don't apply anything to the object, but the colors are blown out.
