  • 1.46.10.... 16 mins for a simple render ?

Guy's ... is it me or is vray (1.46.10) rendering very very slow ?
Just renderered this very simple scene and it took 8 mins 11 secs... with 2 x dual Xeon's working in DR so in fact it would have taken 16 mins .. ??
I dont wont to get on this "vray is rendering slow" bandwagon, but hey ..

have a look @ the file, the settings are basic ..

Yeah, I was doing some tests like that when somebody posted a similar scene a few days ago, I didn't try your scene but for me it seemed to be tied to the VRaylight in the window, lowering it's multiplier made a huge difference in time....

Some more complex scenes I have worked on seem to render as fast as ever, so it is a mystery.

Hmm, it looks like there might be something fishy, I will be looking at this.

          Observation:

When objects get too bright, even without an error; Vray starts slowing down. The darker the scene it seems the faster it renders. Of course the fastest is with almost no lighT but that is not useful.

And that is what I seemed to have seen,

            Good observation evelyn.
Natty, I looked at your scene and vlado also suggest me that maybe the output map on the material is the reason for the long render time - lowering it to .5 for example, makes a difference but still it is slow.

            We are looking into it.

well yeah, but i dont think this would amount to the long render time.

Natty, same results as you 8:24 on my dual 2.8 with two amd 3200 slaves.

                      Very slow indeed!

I was working on an exterior scene with .09 when I had to upgrade and the times nearly doubled for the exact same settings. It seems to be AA is slower with my scene.

Hi, a friend of mine told me about this link, and here is the result of my approach to the problem. (mainly is the use of the output map in the diffuse channel)

This NOT, demonstrate that VRay is not becoming more slower within this new version, but it demonstrates that this scene can be rendered faster with better results.

I hope have a dual box someday to get really fast renders. meanwhile i had to do this scene with a P4 2500 "slaves"

If someone is interested just donwload my version of the scene, I know that can be rendered even faster but this is the most I can do in about an hour, at first sight my config for this scene may look very strange approach, but tons of things were wrong (imho), well is not a very smooth/flexible config but i had to force things a bit to get my R time low, the 1st thing to suffer this "radicalism" were the secondary shadows created in the lower left corner of the window, very low detail in those, but at least this is a good start to make some fine tunning, or simply fake a new ones. (if you can cheat, do it) <-- some guy from pixar said this a long time ago.

                        www.gtudela.com/cgi/tgon.max

Also this scene wouldnt render fast with the confing I founded on it, but what the hell, i think its not practical to render the same config with different machines, I find it more logical change the config and adapt it to your needs. With this im saying that in my machine the original scene could take ages to render.

Sorry for my english, and hope this could help

In conclusion, too much tricks to get that render of a so simple scene,

                        Something happens!!

PS: would be nice to see that scene rendered in only 3 secs.
