Hey all, I'm in the midst of trying out the new (not so new actually) render setup in maya. I've previously been using the legacy render layers and in my exploration so far, I feel like legacy is still more efficient for VRAY perhaps. I would like to open the floor for discussion on this topic to gain more insight, and judge if I should invest more time into the new render setup. If so are there any notable tutorials for this case, i've been surfing about the net and found mostly relating to Arnold render instead. Cheers all!

Legacy Render Layers VS New Render Setup

I love the new render setup. I don't see how its not Vray friendly. It seems render agnostic to me. Now I dont have to hunt for orange overrides when I pick up a scene from someone else. Everything is clearly defined and there are no surprises. Sure it has had bugs since it implementation, but for me, its a HUGE step up.

It is indeed render agnostic, although there are a few specific things that we had to do on our end to support some features very specific to it.
There have been some bugs along the way, most of which I believe are fixed with 4.0 (aka Next), but of course, if you come across anything that doesn't feel right, do let us know.

It's almost out. When it does get announced, we'll make sure everyone knows
We do have builds that we're testing internally where we know that there are some small fixes for the render setup system.
