  • Material Help

I have a couple questions about some of the materials in the attached image.
    1) The Fence: I've created this as a wall, and the material has an opacity map for all the gaps and such. But if you look at the top of the posts you'll notice that i'm getting paper thin diffuse on the front and back. How do I prevent this? I want the depth. The real issue is at the end of the fence line you can see through the "gaps" because the material is having this paper thin effect for some reason.

    2) Is there any way to add texture to the corner of walls?

    Hi Kraig,

    1. You can try to copy the Opacity map and put it in the Displacement slot. A slight amount of displacement might make the posts not looking flat.
    2. Please, elaborate a bit more on your second question.

    Best,

If you notice the corner edge of any wall, they're always perfectly straight. No matter what bump or texture you place to the material the corners are always perfect. Is there a way to create imperfections in the corners for more realism?

I'll give the displacement a try, I've just been trying to avoid displacements due to them crashing my renders.

Can you give more details how displacement is crashing your renders?

No real details to give. The render will take a really long time to get started. Then slowly begin to render. Then Revit will just shut down. No warning, errors or anything. It's all dependent on the size of the scene and the amount of materials I have with displacemen, and any RPC proxies I may have.

But Adding displacement to the wall material gives me the effect I'm looking for to give life to the corner of the walls.
