  • Extend render area without changing camera

OK folks. This is an old issue (not vray related) in where I need to extend the render area from 4k to 7k but without changing the camera position as this cannot be changed.
I used to have a script that did this but many years ago and cant find it.

I can use the Film translate x to move camera left and right and then render each part but I need to do it in one shot.

Has anyone encountered this problem before?

    Thanks guys

With V-Ray 3.6 we added an overscan parameter that you can find in Render Settings > Overrides tab > Camera > Overscan and it does exactly that. Not sure how well overscanning (in general, not our integration in particular) handles such a large change in resolution though, but it's worth a try.

Just for fun, you can also divide the old resolution with the new, and type the result into the Post Scale parameter on the camera (So 4000 px / 7000 px = 0.57142857142 in Post Scale ). It won't be nearly as neat or pixel perfect as the overscan option, but you can preview it in the viewport.

Thanks Yolov absolutely marvelous! did the job perfectly, cant believe how easy that was after spending a day yesterday trying to do it.
