Hi , working with a relatively large (detailed model) with lots of views and hoping to optimize it. I read somewhere that allocating objects to layers, in order to switch off elements not visible in the render view, helped reduce render times. Is this the case and does it apply to the section tool? So what you see is what you get, or does vray calculate the whole model regardless of what's invisible? Thanks.

Is render time affected by using SketchUp's section cuts?

Objects present in the SketchUp scene are loaded (but not raytraced) upon initiating the render process no matter whether fully or partially clipped. As mentioned in this memory optimization guide: "any static geometry, existing as actual triangles in a scene, would load in RAM regardless."
The recommended way to lighten up heavy SketchUp scenes is to hide unnecessary layers prior to rendering, as you've already discovered.
Kind regards,
