Try modelling just one leaf, and then using the advanced painter script to paint them on to your plane. Works pretty good.

sounds nice..

but the installation procedure caused problems. script does not run properly..

advanced painter is very nice , but a more powerfull script for painting objects is maxfreehandtools - http://www.fredmoreau.net/
