  • Rendering a movie as a material

    Hi everyone,
Can one of you lovely people help me out with a problem I have? I am trying to render a bar with a tv on one of the walls and the client would like to see some sports being played on the TV as the animation moves through the space. How can I achieve this? I have tried adding an avi to the diffuse slot of a vraylightmaterial with no success. Scratching my head a bit! My material is applied to the plane of the tv with a UVW map and I have increased the output but it just won't render out, even with a sequence.

    Thanks in advance

You can drop a video in the material slot.

The AVI is available but when I select it and click OK to open nothing happens and the 'file select' dialogue stays open until I hit cancel. The AVI I need is only 4mb and just over a minute long so it's not a huge file.I have read that 3ds max doesn't like AVI files and Autodesk's website suggests not to use them.

.avi is a pretty old format now and Vray bitmap won't load it. The standard bitmap loader should do but may not due to the codec used to make that .avi.
Either way that format is best avoided, so just convert the .avi to an image sequence.

          Hi fixeighted
Thanks for the response. I was guessing this may be the only option and I haven't tried this method before. I'll give it a go.

It's simple enough, even with an online converter for a tiny file like this. If you have issues then link it here and someone will help you out no doubt
