attached is a render comparison to a google earth 3d image. at the time i was not able to work on this so we outsourced. so how did they get the city modeled so well? they must have modeled it based off a google image/earth view, but actually did the model of the building themselves?

yeah sure enough that's it. i've used backgrounds like that before. for some reason i thought this was modeled. but also thought it was odd they would have known it was a post office sign, unless they used street view. i've played around with Placemaker and other plugins for SU etc... usually they are off quite a bit. i've also tried google earth photogrammetry to 3d model, and that's never been that great. sometimes i'll mass out buildings and use street view for textures. i've also taken photos of street corners or empty lots and used that as my photomatched background in max.
