  • Shadow composite in Photoshop?

    Hi,

Would anyone be able to give a quick workflow description of how to comp some Vray render elements (which ones?) in photoshop so as to achieve rendered objects and shadows onto a photograph (ie Vray shadows effect the photo)?

    Cheers.

Generally if you have something that removes light like a shadow pass or a ambient occlusion pass it goes in multiply mode. Light giving effects like specular and reflection go in screen or linear dodge mode. You take your diffuse colour, multiply your shadows over, then screen your specular and reflection passes on top.

You'd need to do a bit of maths with the channels to get alpha shadows from the elements; it would be something like VRayShadows/(VRayLighting+VRayShadows); this will give you white where you have shadows, and black where you don't. It would probably be a good idea to make this into a separate element, seeing as how many people may need it.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

There is a VRayMatteShadow element in newer builds, yes.

            Best regards,
