  • nacre material

    hello all

does anybody know hao to create a nacre (mother of pearl) material?
    any ideas are welcome.

it's a pity the vray-materials.de has no search option.
it's a great site for materials!

Well basically it should be like a dispersion mat, only affecting reflection, and with tacky colours. Add some slight bump to it too. Best method would be vlados type of dispersion blend, where you tint the blend colour and not the shader inside.

Then again I might be wrong.

no i think your right trixian.

I had to make a 'bubble' material, similar to a 'fairy liquid bubble', and this is more or less the easiest technique i used.

Start with a pinkish base solid colour, and use the VrayBlend Material, to overlay perhaps a multicoloured gradient ramp - Distort it perhaps by putting it in a noise map, or something similar....

        thanks for the ideas.

but I have some problems to get the effect. any other ideas?
the problem is the gradient effect from pink to blue and from yellow to green.
        how would you try it?

here is a pic from a shell:

ooooo preeety. hehe yup. im guessing some form of vrayblend material with a bunch of different colors in reflections using falloff masks o blend them

Try a search for dispersion. This seems to be a similar problem as doing CDs and Diamond-like materials

i think something similar can be found in vraymaterials.de

I've found that using shellac with three shaders (RGB) and varying each ones anisatropic angle (30,60,90) gives a really nice effect. Lay this on top of an almost matte shell colored shader and just play with the glossy value in the chromatic aberration style layer along with the blend amounts. Even though a shellac shader isn't physically acurate and doesn't take into consideration the BDRF rule it is still a good tool visually and I would choose to use it in this case

                Best regards,

                  Pretty nice so far
I actually have no clue as to by what "rules" these colours are abiding to in the real thing, but my best guess is that the reflection colour should vary through the pastel (or cmyk if you will) spectrum governed by the direction relative to viewing angle (as in a normal map).
Not sure how to make the different layered reflections blend in at specified angles.
Someone have a good idea as to what to drop in the "blend amount" slot for each colour? Gradient ramp set to phong mode and "tweaked"?

I also think there was a similar DarkTree for SimbiontMAX material.
