  • How to Model a terrain with road?

Hi all, I wish to know what methode do you use for creating terrain with road (with slope).

Personally I use Glue plug-ins but I think that there is a better way to do that.

I made a little tutorial to explain how I made road on terrain :

    THE TUTORIAL : http://pixarchi.free.fr/tutorial/road/road.avi
    and the codec : http://pixarchi.free.fr/install/tscc.exe

Is there a plug for creating terrain with slope?

No plugin needed... create the slope (editable poly, or terrain tool, whatever). Then use shape merge to cut-out the road. Then you can level the polys on the road however you want. It's just poly modeling... there's no magic button to do it for you.

Hope I'm not hyjacking too much, but has anyone noticed that in MAX 9, the Shapemerge tool doesn't work correctly? I can't get carve splines into meshes at all like I used to in MAX 8. I've noticed that the Probooleans are super finicky also. Anyhow, great tutorials and thank you for the time you took to post them for us.

shape merge does not work well on complex, high poly objects. you would be better off using the Boolean>Cut>Split routine. When used correctly, it will always work. Just make sure to Subdivide the objects before (if necessary) to avoid long skinny faces. You can optimize afterwards. Check out the Visualization Insider on CGA for a tutorial on creating sites.

Or you can use Gugila groundwiz (www.gugila.com). In this case I just drew the roadmap in photoshop and GroundWiz did the displacement via VRay.
