  • Geometry Fire Test

    Hey all,

I know its an old technique but i wanted to see if i could get something decent out of it. Going to tweak it some more tomorrow but i think the motion is getting there.

    (EDITED LINK)

And a short movie of the effect.

Any suggestions would be great....not worried about the shader yet...just the motion.

This test is just for fun and practice...not for any project specifically.

Looks pretty nice to me. The coloring will be difficult but motion wise it looks really nice. Care to share how you did it?

I think it needs some more sway...like side to side. Going to try a flex mod at the top to see if it helps any.

How does this compare to a particle solution?

Yeah, helps if I pay attention.

                  pay attention and post twice..
Maybe you need to pay MORE attention hehe jokes aside...

Looks pretty cool Dwayne, good luck coloring it tho. Maybe something like a radial gradient with the middle part stretched upward using uvw unwrap or something might work. So its blue in the middle a the bottom and orange around the outsides the whole time?

Might want to rar the max file up to save your bandwidth. Sure its not a big max file, but it would be like 1/10th the size..every little helps

Will do with the zipping. I'm not too sure what i'm going to do as far as the shader goes but i'm not even going to try until i get the motion perfectly beleivable. We'll see though.

The dynamics in the particle solutions are alot easier...wait, maybe not easier but you get them without having to create them. So i would say the particle solutions look more natural...or at least as you would expect fire to move. I just wanted to make a, mostly, procedural solution that was fairly beleivable and not a major hit on render time.
