  • Possible solution to Light cache problem

    Hi all,

I've been having trouble recently with an odd light cache problem. On a couple of recent jobs, the light cache would reach approx 90% calculation and just hang. You'd think it was a render power issue but I'm using a Dual Quad core Xeon 5355, XP64 with 8GB of RAM!

I tried rendering the scene with a standard grey material and it worked, so I guess it's something material based. But a grey render is no use when you have a deadline to meet!

Anyway, I tried rendering half the image as a region render and it worked, so I just rendered the other half afterwards and all was well. But (and here's the interesting bit), I tried out a theory last night where I rendered the whole image as one region and guess what? It worked!

I've no idea why it did , but I hope this helps anyone else with a similar problem.

    All the best,

    Andy

This was using Max 9 64-bit with service pack 1 and the productivity booster extension installed, and Vray 1.5RC3.

Unfortunately I can't upload the scene as it's a job for a client and contains commercially purchased textures - Sorry!
