Nice to see other people are also experimenting with this
@mdi
I use a nodal ninja too. Think it's the best price/quality panohead gear you can get.
I also recommend using bracketing instead of tweaking RAW's. Having 3 real exposures gives you much more dynamic range than 1 RAW. I also use PTGui. It has indeed build-in support for HDRI. You can just throw the bracketed exposures at it and it will generate an HDRI. (Only in PRO version). Just got out of beta.
I use my canon S2 connected to computer with AHDRIA to automate the exposures.

But mdi it's really nice what you have done, and faking gets you a really long way, but you might get into problems with for example a black car, there is no way that lightroom can lower the exposure of a well lit image so the sun is just a white circle so you never get the same amount of intensity.

However they use a special program for that..
I was thinking of a way to do this in ps, but ps doesn't support painting in 32bit. But it does allow copy/paste. So could it be that once you have a sun in .hdr format you could paste it in an hdr environment?
Haven't tried it though. It was just a thought..
I have only just started experimenting with HDRI, so please correct me if I'm wrong..

a bit off topic this : but shouldnt it theoretically be possible for a camera to take an HDRI all by itself? (if manufacturers thought there was demand I mean)
In other words does the dynamic range of the sensor approach that of an hdri ?
or is the sensor output equal to the RAW file??
or am I talking nonsense?
re stitching - if you take the shots with a tripod and a locked rotation head you could use After Effects to stitch one set of exposures...
Then duplicate your composition and swap in the alternate exposures
I've used AFX for still comps before and it provides non destructive instanced comping - works fine on print resolutions.

quick question though. wouldnt changing the f-stop when creating HDRI's also change the DOF ?
