@ soreal: No comptex used, actually pretty simple setup: Vray-2sided material with one turbulence-noise as opacity and two different sized noise as a negative bump. Both maps slowly animated. The whole thing applied on a Vray plane which glides along. That's it. No lens flare
@Stephan: would love to, but still don't know how to "backsave", the old Max-Issue, sorry ... Could I do it
I faded the diffuse colors for the treeline horizon manually based on distance...amazingly, Vray did the rest when I used the same material setup that was used for the clouds, but with a solid mask/alpha map!
been getting some quite nice results on this but one problem - when the sun is visible in the frame the render seems to hang for a long time on the sun...

It will go away if you check the clamp output/subpixel mapping options.

Basically, instead of using greys in the opacity map to show distance fading, I did the fading in the diffuse map in photoshop. This ended up working very well with the 2-sided material becuase it uses the brightness of the back-side material's diffuse to determine the amount of transmittance.
s0real, can't wait to see your video! But I have to wait until I get home, youtube is restricted here at work
