    Re: Render a Section Cut

and the "save a copy" and "delete", probably if you have a lot of groups you'll had to explode them and follow the technic above. Other wise what I used to do so far was to create a box bigger than my model and to align it to the section plane , then to create the intersection with all of my groups and delete, in an orthographic view, the bit that I don't want....Probably not the quickest way but it works.
ok.. i understand.. but.. there is a script.. or anithing else.. that allow me to cut the not interested bit of my model.. without explode my group??

    Only this things...

I mean if I use a setting good enough for any other camera I would not have the same result (light global illumination) with an orthographic one an dthe same setting. I really don't have a clue on what to do...? any suggestion knowing that I tried to change the setting of the global illumination or/and other stuff without any better result?
What VfSU version are you using? I've tried the 'Parallel Projection' on 1.05 and it works just fine.

Orei : I don't know a specific script but I think if it would exist you should find it to this adress: http://www.crai.archi.fr/RubyLibrary...rary_Depot.htm

40th : I don't think it would be a problem with my version but probably more a change in my settings. Whenever I tried Irmap or lighttracer it just render something white ...then if I used the curved control I could manage to see something ???
I really don't get it. Just to let you know, the version I use is 1.49.
Do you know where I could find a tutorial to render this specific kind of scene? I haven't found anything yet on the net.

I think so too... I didn't tried the 'Parallel Projection' on the original release, so if you want to be sure that this feature work i recommend to use the latest release- 1.05.

                    Re: Render a Section Cut

Just been testing it on both release : I think I found the answer. I used a "sky" settings in environement and a still camera. That will not work with that. But if I choose camera standard and leave it clear for GI I have a result. My bad setting :-\

according to this video, to render a section cut in VRAY, all you need to do is COPY+MOVE the object WHITE under a section cut!!

                        Re: Render a Section Cut

That video looks like a neat trick, but it is just that... a trick. The key to it is that he is working on a completely exploded model (which is very bad practice in SU) as this trick doesn't work with grouped geometry.

When he drags the selection tool across the geometry on the left he only selects the geometry which is below the section plane (as the SU selection tool only selects visible geometry and everything above the section plane is temporarily invisible). As he then copies only this selected geometry across (the walls and floors, but not the roof) when it renders it looks like a rendered section, but is actually a render of the roofless model. He might have thought that was a useful tip, but it's more deceptive than anything, and not very useful. The exact same effect could be achieved without even using a section plane- just explode everything, and viewing the model from the side just drag select everything below a certain level and copy it. :

Another way to do this (with groups and components on) is to use the Zorro plugin by Whaat.

Downside to this is that it will remove and erase everything you don't want in your section. But just make a backup and everything will be fine
