Great tutorial. I never thought of exporting the diffuse channel separate. I used to use the magic wand to pick up the colour of the plain colour grass area to create a mask.'

The biggest challenge is getting a good texture. I'm struggling with finding good birds eye view angled textures.

Excellent, very clear tutorial. I'll definately give that a go, for grass and, as thomthom says, for other materials to. Thanks.
What would you say are the advantages over the 'Micha' grass method, which also works very well.

ive read that thread, but couldnt get it to work, but in theory i understood it and thought it would be very hard to control, in regards to changing your view as the texture is very view dependent...
but u asked me about the advantages, and i suppose they are that less photoshopping is needed...

VFB channels (athmosphere, diffuse, lighting, shadow etc) is one of the parameters that can be found on your render option. you can add them when rendering and when saving vray will save them as seperate Channel on which you can use them as another layer in Photoshop or any other post processing softs that support layers.
