Re: Leafs Backlit
Not needed, the result you see is done only with Double-Sided option turned off.

Re: Leafs Backlit
Interesting. So I suppose all material will behave like that if two-sided is of.
I had thought that the two sided was suppose to be on when you wanted to simulate thin material. Serves me right for just skimming through the manual instead of actually reading. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Leafs Backlit
Yes, all materials. It fits thin paper material as well.
Imo the manual good for starters, but for more complex/sophisticated there's much more information left out. This is why we should help each other to learn more.

Re: Leafs Backlit
Can you share the scene?
I can't reproduce this.
What is the light source? Sun?
The only difference I see with double sided on or off is whether the shadows hits the leafs below the top leafs.
Only way I could make the leaf translucent was to use the diffuse map as opacity map, but that just made things look like it was photoshopped layer on top of each other. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Re: Leafs Backlit
Light source is Sun only.
No opacity needed, the Double-Sided option allows to see the shadows 'hitting' a surface while looking at the backside of the surface. I hope that my explanation understandable.

Re: Leafs Backlit
Thanks for uploading the scene. I'll have to wait to try it out until I get to the office where I'm still using the original release. Here at home I use the SR1 and the scene acts completely different. Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

Thanks for your reply.
When I referred to your model, I saw that the angle at which the seen was set to show the SU sun was very queer.
Can you please explain the way to show the Su sun???
Regards,
I had default settings for the sun, with "Override Sun's parameters" checked.
For orientation, i turn on the SU shadows and according to them aimed the camera.
As for the camera location in the scene, it's located close to leafs for zooming.
So for seeing the sun directly in the sky just aim your camera according to the SU Sun's shadows.
