  • Animation with VfR

mmm, well guys to some of you this may be a funny question, but I'm still gonna go for it.

Since the scene for the animation tutorial has been removed, I'm having some trouble understanding how to create a simple animation with VfR.

I've gone through all the steps to set up my scene, but whenever I render it only renders the actual camera position. At this point I'm stuck trying to calculate the Irradiance map for the whole scene.

Here's the funny question: How do I make VfR render the IR map for every frame? should this be done manually? shouldn't it be working on it's own?

    Re: Animation with VfR

The tutorial used Rhino's built in animation tools, so in order to actually render the animation itself, you have to use the RecordAnimation command exposed by the animation tools. Clicking "Animation" in the V-Ray options won't be enough to get it render out the animation.

You actually don't want the IR map for every frame, but rather for every 5th to 10th frame. In the case of the tutorial, you will need to recreate the animation with the same curves, but fewer frames in order to get the frame spacing that you need. Again, you will need to use the RecordAnimation command exposed by the animation tools to make V-Ray render anything other than the current camera position.

You should look into the V-Ray Utilities. There are a number of tools that are in there for animation that make it much easier and quicker to do them. Also, there's the capability to store multiple animations and not have to worry about recreating them each time. All of this works with the same built in animation tools, so that functionality is still usable as well.

Dalomar, thx. Gonna work with those Vray Utilities you told me, haven't really used them. I've another Question regarding this..... how can I save the animation in other formats rather than HTML?

The built in animation tools create a html file that has some java script on the back and that pops the animation up in a web page. The animation it self is still just still images that are saved in the location you tell it. You will need to take that sequence of images and compile it into what ever format you want through a video editing software of you're choice, such as Adobe Premiere.
