  • -----> FROSTED GLASS with vR <----- Anyone Please

    Hi

I can get clear glass, so far I'm alright...but have no idea how to
make frosted glass. Does anyone know? Dont what to use standard
material with Spec.Highlights - cos then I will have blotches in my
    renders.

    Cheers
    A

I start with a VRay material, a basic glass then use a noise map for the
bump. This usually gets the job done. There might be a cleaner way.
The size of the noise map more or less controls what kind of frost it
turns out looking like. A small pattern looks white frosted like a lamp
bowl and a larger size looks more like obscured shower glass.

Personally I'd just use glossy refractions. Maybe 0.7 should suffice.

Where can I find this "vray material"? I try to use raytraced for a simple glass sphere. This seems virtually impossible to get the refraction right.

          thanks for any tip

              Yeah baby
I found a vraymap for reflection and refraction, but no vray mtl anywhere. Is this because I use vray free?
Dit I place the files in the wrong place?
place be just a little more specific

              anybody?

              thanks

Yes it's because you use vray free, it doesn't have vraymtl. Download the demo if you really want to test vray, it has all the functions of the full version but you can't save settings.

Can't save settings is one thing, in 5 days the trail expires!

I've been working with 3d studio since the old DOS release 3.5, and I'm still finding out "new" stuff in Max 5 every day!

How can someone expect to have a serious go at this renderer in 5 days!

A bit off topic, but does anybody know a desent way around this?

There is a new Demo every 30 days or so, if this one expires there will be a new one soon, there are people who have been "Demoing" for years
