With rectangular light, I could make natural and soft shadow, but if I add sunlight system and make it as sunlight source in GI setting, it creates too harsh shadow.
However, it works only when I don't use sunlight system as sunlight source.
The override parameter of the sun in the environment doesn't work. That is a known issue. You have to increase the size of the sun through rhino object properties. So, disable the override sun on the environment GI(Skylihgt) and on Background. Select the light and type "Properties" on command line, then select light on the properties window and change the size parameter there.
yap, like Fernando says you have to insert a real sun, and dont't override it, control it from the rhino properties by increasing the value of the size mult in the light parameter. Remember, bigger numbers make shadows softer, but too much it tends to dissappear, so, size will depend on you scene scale.
The sun is a direct light, but to control it you use the Properties in the rhino UI. To Insert a sun there is an icon in the V-Ray toolbar (a sun like icon, well more like a spot light).
Also this should be inportant to Download.
