  • Quick VRayZDepth and other render elements

I just found out that you can quickly render out a VRayZDepth and some other render elements without having to re-render the whole scene, which can be useful if you forgot to setup your render elements after you’ve already sent out the job. This can be done by using a VRaySphereFade Atmospheric.
    • First go to the create panel > Helpers > Atmospheric Apparatus > and create a “SphereGizmo” and put it somewhere in your 3D scene but make sure nothing is inside or touching the sphere.
    • Next go to the Environment and Effects menu and in the Atmosphere fly out, add a VRaySphereFade.
    • In the “VRaySphereFade parameters” rollout Pick the SphereGizmo as the Gizmo.
What this ends up doing is that vray will only render things in the sphereGizmo but as a nice side-effect a lot of the render elements will render out completely.

If you guys know of a button or a simpler way of quickly rendering out elements please let me know, but if there isn’t I hope this helps someone.

A lot of the time I'll put on a black override material, turn off lights, shadows and gi and then do a render to get my matte passes. In this case vray might have slightly dodgy looking edges due to it's early termination, so try using fixed aa at 2 or 3.

that's exactly what I also do, it's usually a very quick way to re render those elements.

Thanks! I’ll try thatout and see if it gets a better or equal result.

I dont understand this workflow, since you say "make sure nothing is inside or touching the sphere." and then "vray will only render things in the sphereGizmo"......?¿ anyway, right now my render elements are rendered with the exact area of the RGB, thus the area included inside the SphereGizmo, maybe this was "fixed" in recent builds?¿

            Best regards,

I think that because nothing is in the sphere, nothing gets rendered however you still end up with the elements, right?

But with empty elements....or at least with the same exact part that is inside the spehere, so where is the useful of this???

Matt is saying you still get the elements, I think that's pretty clear in his post isn't it?

Going to try it out as it seems to be a few steps quicker than the override material route. Thanks

He just means if for example you forgot to turn zdepth on and want to get it as quickly as possible without re-rendering everything.

Well, "you get the elementS", within my test you get the ZDepth but nothing more....

Anyway yes, is usefull fot Zdepth, but i understood you would get all the elements (Reflection...etc)

                        Regards,
