  • How to speed up Vray?

    Hi all,

In anticipation of a new vfSU version I want to speed up the render time on my projects with current version (to the level of the old Vray 1.00.74).

Is there a way (setting?) to cut down the long parsing (warm up) time?
And a second question: When I use alpha transparency .png bitmaps (tree leaves etc..), render time is ridiculously high (I use the simple alpha channel checkbox).
    Any way to overcome this?

Any other speed suggestion is welcome.
The reason I am not using vfSU that much, currently, is because of it's speed limit. I miss the blazing speed (parsing time and rendering) of the old vfSU 1.00.74.

    Thank you in advance,

    Kwistenbiebel

I found whenever I am using hi-res maps and png files the parsing time and memory takes longer. I do not know about the question of applying materials to inside or outside the group still contribute to the parsing time. One thing I noticed. When I model my geometries by myself and apply seamless textures (around 600px max) and tried to avoid re-using models made from other files (3ds and obj), parsing time is shorter..

from time to time i also import 3ds or obj files, but if I do, I removed all native materials and purge them first. Then I manually add the materials thereafter before adding them to my scene. With this kind of practice (which might be tedious in the beginning) I found the parsing time to be quicker. Of course I don't know exactly what is happening on the core of VraySU, but the management practice gave me some workflow to avoid long parsing and Crashes!

      hey there...
i believe it's all about order... i know, hehe that´s what i always say, so, let me share this quick video tutorial. for me, the trick is to calculate the irradiance map setting and only invrease subdivisions of the materials that need it, instead of increasing the whole noise threshold.

bad news, the tutorial is in spanish, what i do is take a simple sceene, calculate the illumination, and the output acording to the irradiance map values, and then i do not make any render at all, since the material editor is so good and realistic, i just eddit every single material and then i just change the settings and send the final render.
hope you find it usefull, eventhough it's not in english. :P

          Thanks guys .
I am using lo res images for the clip maps so it is not the culprit.
Clipmaps used to be much faster in the past (1.00.74 and 1.05.03).
As I do architectural scenes, trees (both 2D clipmaps as 3D trees with 2D leaves), in current Vray versions take longer than the unbiased render engines around....
The Vray engine is made to be very fast, however the Sketchup port doesn't seem to translate the speed that well (anymore)...
