  • Creating a UV mapping pass - tutorial

I just learned how to create a UV mapping pass in v-ray for maya and wrote a short tutorial explaining how.

    Hi,
Thanks for the tutorial but you must never connect a shader in a extraTex element. ExtraTex is...for tex, texture.
So, why you do not connect directly the place2dtexture to the extraTex element ?

    Place2dtexture>outUV>outU to vrayRE_Extra_Tex>vray_texture_extratex>vray_textur e_extratexR
    Place2dtexture>outUV>outV to vrayRE_Extra_Tex>vray_texture_extratex>vray_textur e_extratexG

Il will be more "clean" .

I think also you need to disable "filtering" and "consider for anti aliasing".
You do not filter "data pass", and "consider for anti aliasing". can change the AA of your beauty.

    Thanks,
    Damien.

Did you read the tutorial all the way through? First I connected it to a surface shader as example so you could see what was going on. Then I show how to connect it to the extratex element to use as a render pass. Is this a problem?

As for your other comments about filtering and anti-aliasing you are very right I will update that. Thank you for your feedback,

Yep, because you connect the surfaceShader on the renderPass, and not the texture directly (the Place2dtexture).
You must to connect the Place2dtexture directly (because it is a texture, and extraTex is for textures), and not the surfaceShader (it is a shader).

Alright, this should do the trick I think. Here is the updated tutorial. It is now more simple and concise.

Special thanks to bigbossfr for clearing up a couple things.
