  • How to use Ptex Textures and Displacement in V-ray for maya tutorial!

I've been wanting to do this for a long time so I finally took a couple days and made it happen!

I wrote two tutorials detailing how to use Ptex displacement and textures in V-ray for Maya! (I used Mudbox but the technique would work for zbrush users as well)

Ptex displacement and texturing in Mudbox to V-ray for Maya PART 1

Ptex displacement and texturing in Mudbox to V-ray for Maya PART 2

    Enjoy!

It may no longer be an issue with 2014, but in previous versions of mudbox it was important to smooth your mesh to the final sculpt level before setting up ptex at level 0. There is nasty stretching on non square faces. It's not in the mudbox docs, but was confirmed by a developer on a support request.

Thanks for taking the time to make these!

thats not a bug thats how ptex is working... you have to subdivide to give ptex the information how the limit surface will look like...
but you are right without documentations its a bit hard to find the right workflow...
