Painting vector maps in Mari is a breeze, but they are not compatible with Vray because the two software work with vectors in slightly different ways. This tutorial deals with how to generate vector maps in Mari that will work with Vray fur.

Note that in order to convert the range from -1 to 1 in Mari to 0 to 1 for Vray I needed to convert the 16-bit image to 8-bit before exporting in Mari. While this works to use 8-bit images, I'm not totally happy with that solution. If someone knows a way to do this (say in Nuke) while keeping the texture in 16-bit, please share, and I'll update the tutorial.
Hope folks find this helpful!
