  • Only 3D people object animation. How to incorporate their shadows (without surface)?

    Hi all,

I´m doing animation lately and i not surely an expert on this field.

At the moment i am using Populate hi-res 3d people in Max2014 and works nice imo. Very easy and fast to work with.

I want to render this 3d people separately from all the rest of the scene.
I know how to render the human objects separately, but how do i also render them with their own shadows too (without surface)?

This must be an easy question for animation experts.

    Thanks in advance!

Typically, I just select all geometry that the people would be interacting with (walking on, or walk behind, etc.) and making them a Matte object. Then set the alpha contribution to -1 so that the matte objects are excluded from the alpha. Check affect shadows to affect alpha so that you get shadows with your people.

Select all objects you want to mask / collect shadow information
Go to VRay Object Properties Dialogue
    Check Matte Object
    Alpha contribution to -1
    Under Direct Light
    Check Shadows
    Check Affect Alpha
    Close Dialogue box

You should be good to go.
