Simbiont is a procedural texture plugin for Max. It can be downloaded for free. Here's the site where you can find out more (and download of course )

              need help with symbiont plugin

when i execut the instalation program the software dont recognise the autodesk viz 4 , asking for 3ds max 4 or 5,this is why the plugin doesn't work?

just ignore the 3dsmax 4 and find the directory to your VIZ 4....it will work fine.

                        Thanks Chris,

Its interesting to note that some of these shaders can have a dramatic effect on rendering times... I had a scene with 5 teapots (various shaders from .mat file), skylight (no hdr) and hdr environment and it took 29min to render (P4 3.0ghz) !!! While the same scene with just basic vray materials took around 2min...

and i always thought it was the GI that caused these crazy render times...
