What is V-Ray Render for when V-Ray (material preview) seems to do even more?

Why would I ever need to be in the V-Ray Render instead of V-Ray (material preview)? They seem to be identical except V-Ray is just stripped of the material preview which it seems like I would always want. There is obviously something that I am missing. Can anyone fill me in?

You are not missing anything. They are exactly the same except preview. Just not everyone need material preview.

PS: If you really don't like that menu item that much, you could fork the script and remove this render engine from it =) Open source =)
