  • Texturing A Robot Hand Video Tutorial

Posted a new 25minute video tutorial, it's a $1 to buy but couldn't see any rules about not posting things for sale (please direct me to the appropriate rule if this post violates a forum policy):

Texturing A Robot Hand Video (25 minutes, $1)
    http://sites.fastspring.com/soulburn...dvideotutorial

Uses Vray for all materials and rendering.

Description: Are you a 3d Concept Artist who uses Keyshot but wishes its materials were more flexible and it had better painting capabilities? Are you a Texture Artist who works on the final asset, but are tired of waiting for a complex robot with thousands of parts to be UVd? This video tutorial shows off how I textured a robot hand from my book project "Inc" using a projection painting technique that requires no UV unwrapping and gives you far more flexibility than Keyshot provides while still retaining the speed.

Very succinct - enjoyed your gnomon video and this is a great straight to the point approach.

Thanks guys. Ya, this is the culmination of a technique I first showed off on that gnomon DVD all those years back. I've gotten a lot faster at it thanks to scripting and some third party plugins and what not, but I believe with some software support, it could go even faster!

so keyshot is a rendering tool, like (but not) vray, and this is a tutorial for that?

Sorry, my description may have been too vague. This is a tutorial showing how to use vray in a keyshot like way, but with more flexibility (since its vray).

Opening with 'are you an artist that uses keyshot' threw me. I'd never heard of it and had to look it up.

I use your projection method already when the object calls for it so i'll check this out, thanks!

Next time I'll put the "Uses Vray for all materials and rendering." sentence higher up

And glad you're already using the technique, the video is a good example of the entire process, including techniques for speeding things up.

Great video Neil. This seems like a really useful technique. Don't see any projects coming up where I could make use of it but its still nice knowledge to have. Also loved your compiled list at the end.
                  Cheers,
                  Oliver
