  • New to Vray

    Hi forum,

I just purchased Vray 3.0 for Maya (Mental Ray Convert) and while I wait for the dongle to arrive, I figured I would ask if there was a good tutorial to reference to get familiar with Vray's functions and tools.

    Thank you!

    Les

There is a lot of stuff on the docs site at http://docs.chaosgroup.com/ - it might make sense to look at the tutorials sections in both the Maya and 3ds Max sections.

    Best regards,

One last question, I have two versions of Maya. 2013 and 2014.

Do I need to download BOTH Vray 3.0 versions from the Chaos website?

Yes, you will need to download both of the respective installations.

Will I need two Vray 3.0 licenses, or just one?

You will need just one license.

                Vlado,

I am having issues installing Vray.

When i try to render i get the error message...

// Error: Could not obtain an interface license (-200)!

Also, when i try to launch the vray license server i get the error:

One of the following licenses are required:
                WibuKey 250897:7758101
Failure reason: A suitable WibuBox entry was not found (17).

                Can you help me?

Vlado - see my last reply.

I figured out that the usb port i was using for the dongle was not reading the dongle. I switched to another port and it read it fine.

                  What i found interesting though...

In the default Maya render view, I would render a scene and get this error message.
// Error: Could not obtain an interface license (-200)!
The screen was black but it was obviously rendering something since it displayed the time it took. 7 seconds.

I then launched the vray frame buffer and I could see the render.

I went back to the default render and tried again. Same thing. Black screen with same error message.

I then closed the frame buffer.

I went back to the default render and rendered again. No error message and it worked.
