  • VraySphereFade with a box?

Is it possible to create a VraySphereFade node but use a shape other than a sphere? I'm making some lighting passes for composite and a "VrayBoxFade" would be an ideal solution.

What about "Render mask" and "object set" ?
Perhaps you can use this (but i don't know what do you want to do).

It's not impossible; in Max we have sphere, box and cylinder so it shouldn't be too hard to add them to Maya.

        Vlado,

That would be incredibly helpful. Thanks! If you were to implement this, would I need access to the nightly builds to use it soon or is there a point release coming up?

        bigboxxfr,

I've baked my lighting to textures for background elements and I'd like to control the "falloff" of the lighting for some of the passes. Due to the scale of the scenes (mountain ranges, canyons and such) a simple sphere or even several spheres doesn't give me the look or control I want. I've tried render mask but it seems it will only work with whole objects and I don't see a way to make a graduated falloff the way a SphereFade does. I also tried masking areas with black fog in box containers and this might be the method I go with for now but it's kind of slow and hard to control precisely. A "VrayBoxFade" would be the simplest solution, especially considering I'll need to hand these background builds off to junior artists.

        Thanks!

        - J
