  • VRay Blender Gobo

    Hey, guys.

Does anyone have any tips on how to do a gobo in VRay Blender?

And I have no idea about this, but I'll ask anyway: is there any way to specify a focal point for an IES light, like you would focus a Source 4 stage fixture?

    Thank you.

    Edit:

Sorry, here's the blend with the file I am trying to test as a gobo.

I apologize for the last file. When I pack the files into a .blend, it doesn't render. The .blend, IES file, and gobo file are all in this zip, verified.

Thank you, and again I apologize for the confusion.

an ies is directional, so you should be able to track it to a target empty. If I have some time I'll look at it, but I know I've done spot lights that were targeted to an object. (spot and ies are interchangeable)

Hey, andybot. I appreciate the response. It's not so much the direction I need as to focal distance. Now, that may be something that either isn't possible or is done a way I have no idea how to do. For example, a Source 4 stage fixture has a lens on the end of a barrel that allows you to specify a focal distance, just like a camera.

I have no idea if that part is possible. If not, I can figure something out about that. But I am struggling bad with the gobo thing. I'll keep at it, though.

Again, thank you for the reply, anybot.

There's a link to the fixture from which the IES data was obtained, so you can see what I mean about focal distance.

Hey, andybot. So, I figured it out. Let me preface by saying I am not 100% sure, but really close to it. You can't attach a texture to an IES light. That's the issue. I can't do it in Max, nor find anything anywhere about it, and every attempt I have tried in Blender has yet to work. Any type of mapping or whatever you can think of doesn't work and since VRay Blender is still so new, there's not just a lot of info, either. Anyway, thank you for your help.
