  • An alpha channel question?

I want to output an image with its respective alpha channel. So i save the image as an tga file with i especificate to save the alpha.

The problem is that in my building siluet i have glas against the backround, and it came out as a solid white, when i need it to be almost trasparent so i can put a backround in PS.

What can i do to prucuce such alpha.

    Thanks

dunno if this is waht you need but, i do that the old fashioned way:

Use max STANDARD material, use 2 bitmaps, one as diffuse map and the other as the opacity map (this one is the balck and white image-alpha)

Ive never used a TGA file, cant get good results, so i always go for the old way wit the 2 .jpg files.

        Pre multiplied alpha also helps.

I believe he is talking about when he opens the file in Photoshop, it is not a part of the alpha channel.

I think your problem is that you have reflections in your glass. As was already suggested, check the effect alpha in the basic paramaters of the material for your glass. This has to be a vray material.

pisses me off when im using PS7 that it automatically removes the alpha when i open a TGA.

There is a tga plugin from adobe that fixes that and keeps the alpha, just have to poke arround their site a bit.

                Here it is:

                http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...jsp?ftpID=1544

                Targa plug-in

Versions of Adobe Photoshop earlier than version 7.0 saved the first alpha channel in a file into the fourth channel when writing Targa files. Photoshop 7.0 changed the application's default behavior to save transparency information instead of an alpha channel, resulting in incompatibility with some existing workflows. In response to user feedback, this plug-in restores the earlier behavior of the Targa plug-in.

Note: The Photoshop 7.0.1 update contains all functionality included in the revised Targa plug-in, so downloading and using the revised plug-in is unnecessary with Photoshop 7.0.1.

well i find it kind a cool when PS7 drops out the alpha-channel.
why should i keep it, if the picture that allready inherits the alpha keeps the shilouette?...emm, hope you understand what i'm trying to explain.
furthermore i save my renderings as .PS-files.
